Vehicle Blacklist Check

Vehicle blacklisting is a process where a vehicle is flagged in the Vahan database by the RTO or law enforcement authorities, preventing any transactions related to the vehicle. A blacklisted vehicle cannot be sold, transferred, or have its RC renewed until the issue causing the blacklisting is resolved. The blacklist entry is visible to all RTOs across India, making it impossible to bypass by registering in a different state.

There are several reasons why a vehicle may be blacklisted. The most common reason is involvement in criminal activities such as theft, hit-and-run accidents, or use in the commission of a crime. Other reasons include unpaid e-Challans that have been pending for an extended period, tampered engine or chassis numbers, involvement in smuggling or illegal transport, and court orders directing the RTO to blacklist the vehicle.

Before purchasing a used vehicle, it is strongly recommended to check if the vehicle is blacklisted. Buying a blacklisted vehicle can result in the vehicle being seized by the police, and you may face legal complications. You can check the blacklist status of any vehicle through the Parivahan Sewa portal by entering the vehicle registration number.

• Stolen Vehicle: If a vehicle is reported stolen, it is immediately blacklisted across all RTOs in India.
• Hit-and-Run Cases: Vehicles involved in hit-and-run accidents where the driver fled the scene are blacklisted pending investigation.
• Unpaid e-Challans: Vehicles with a large number of unpaid e-Challans over an extended period may be blacklisted.
• Tampered Identification: If the engine number or chassis number is found to be tampered with, the vehicle is blacklisted for investigation.
• Court Orders: A court may order the blacklisting of a vehicle as part of legal proceedings or as a precautionary measure.
• Suspicious Registration: Vehicles with duplicate or fraudulent registration details are blacklisted.
• NIA / Police Investigation: Vehicles under investigation by the NIA or state police for involvement in criminal activities.
